Yep, because I'll be asking for help with it soon.

Its Forest 1, Ive made 19 tiles and Im working on the coding right now to build high-quality premade 64x64 maps that can be seen on a full screen.

The help I need are screenshots, because right now I have lousy little 16x16 icons that wont do the job I want, so if anyone would like to help out I need screenshots of the single tiles of grass, dirt, snow, desert, ice, and a few screenshots of various premade maps so I can get the needed tiles off of those(like the trees in Forest, etc...)

I guess this possibly could go into general, but I didnt know where to put it

thats gona be way harder then it needs to be plus the demand for rpg maker 1 is really small so it may not be worth putting so much effort into it. try to do a simpler approach, something that gives a rough idea of the sample tile set like what you where doing. there is really only 3 sample sets that need to be done, the two dungeon and the forest set. everything else is easy to see what it is (though i do get the odd surprise every so often when i pull up a map i dont use often and find something extra i didnt see before).

Believe me, this is waaayyyyyy easier then what I was doing before, all I do is make the matrix and then the program maps it for me.

Ill show you what I mean once I work all the bugs out(havent done mapping in a while in vb6)

There is a path of terrain type '04' that starts at the bottom, and by the time it reaches 1/4 of the way up the map it changes and widens into what appears to be a heart shaped clearing.

Re: Can anyone guess what this is?

If you want a matrix, why can't you just first make a default tile(19 in this case) fill of the grid, then enter in the specific points(an X and Y value), followed by the tile type for each specific tile change you want.
Just built the matrix's output that way.

Is this what you wanted to do?
I don't understand what you're trying to do, or if it's that you can't figure out how to go about it, or if it's also some limitations that are making it hard to do.

Re: Can anyone guess what this is?

Thats what Ive been doing(check my VB thread in my game forum). Some of the more complex maps has 4,225 tiles, with about half of those being walkable and the other unwalkable, comes out to a lot of work when you have to put all those codes in.

Considering I want to do this with about 100 more premade maps, itll take forever if I dont find another way.

And as Karr pointed out, demand isnt high for RM1, but Im trying to spark demand back in it by offering tools thatll help in easier and more creative game creation.

Re: Can anyone guess what this is?

Here's a better version with some nifty features:

First, you do a default tile fill.
Then for specific tile data input, make a system where you can enter tile types in a stream, from either x or y, by just entering in the tile type numbers, one after the other- "19,42,34"
First you enter an x/y point, which is the x and y number value, but you add 1000 to x numbers, and 2000 to y numbers in the input file's data.
When a data number doesn't match a tile type number, it checks if it's in the 1000-1999 range, and if so, it subtracts 1000 from the number, and uses it as the x point, and for 2000, the y point to move to(-2000), if that's what you used.
This allows moving either x, y, or both easily, and only in-between tile data, which is read in the direction of the last x/y point:
if an x point was the last given, tile streams go right, if it was y, tile streams go down:

                            19,18,36,54
                            or

                            19
                            18
                            36
                            54

Also, if the next number after a tile is in the 3000-3999 range, you make a line of the last tile type given, and the line length is this number, minus 3000.
If you want to make a rectangle, another 3000-3999 range number is put after the first.

If you're going in an x-stream, this rectangle will go right+down(x/y), and if you're in a y tile stream, the rectangle goes down+right(y/x).

Also, add special shape-formations where when a data number's a specific number that's never otherwise used, like 5000, the next numbers are used to determine the size of a specific shape, like a circular pattern using the tile given, by applying a little sub-module you create to make the shape with the choosen tile and size dimensions given.
A circle could be first adding 3 tiles right, then going down and left, adding 5 tiles, and so on, forming a circle/oval with those tiles.
You could also add borders to these shapes, like for a forest tile, you could make the border it makes one that gives specific tile patterns for the top of the border, and a different tile pattern for the sides, to where it'd end up looking much like that pic you posted. So, a circle ends up looking like this:

                            1413121314
                            1311111111113
                            1211111111111112
                            1211111111111111112
                            12111111111111111112
                            1211111111111111112
                            1211111111111112
                            101111111110
                            10101010

Oh, and if you can make a bordered triangle/oval/rectangle, you can also make bordered pathways.

Just use the data that designates the size of the path, which tiles should make up the path and the border pieces, then gives x and y points, one after the other, going in any direction, along with changing path size at any point, and you've got one super-quick level-maker.
